Rural roads connecting the district’s municipalities and wards are being blacktopped at a rapid pace. The district-based Infrastructure Development Office, the Dang Road Division, and the Urban Development Program have begun blacktopping rural roads in earnest.

Over the past five years, 68 kilometers of road have been blacktopped by the Infrastructure Development Office, 22 kilometers through the Dang Road Division, and 10 kilometers through the Urban Development Program. According to the Dang Road Division, in Salyan, excluding the Rapti Highway, 440 meters of the Damachaur–Gurase road, 1.1 kilometers of the Shankhamul–Chhatreshwori Temple road, 1.15 kilometers of the Tharmare–Ratpahra road, 210 meters of the Tharmare Bazaar–Campus road, 2.2 kilometers of the Srinagar–Khairabang road, 465 meters of the Bheri Bridge section, 6.5 kilometers of the Khalanga–Salchaur–Kalimati road, and 10.5 kilometers of the Khalanga–Shitalpati and Khalanga–Jaytapani roads under periodic maintenance have been blacktopped.

Under the Infrastructure Office, 68 kilometers of roads including Luham–Khabra 11, Khalanga–Balua Sangrahi 11, Tharmare–Badagaun–Ragechaur 25, Solabang–Rim 7 kilometers, Marke–Madhana, Duldharapokhara, Badagaun–Farula, Shankhamul–Darimjyula, Dhodchaur, and Kalimati–Balua roads have been blacktopped, while under the Urban Development Office, 10 kilometers including Kharibot–Tatke and roads around Baghchaur Municipality have been blacktopped.

During the rainy season, when roads were blocked for two to three months, residents of all 10 local units in the district had to travel on foot to the district headquarters. After the roads were blacktopped, local people have now been relieved. Ordinary people are able to reach home by vehicle. Earlier, it took an hour and a half by vehicle to travel from Luham to Khabra Bazaar. During the rainy season, when vehicles could not operate, people had to walk back and forth. Now, they can reach home in just 20 minutes, said Ratna Bahadur Bohora of Khabra. He said that after the roads were blacktopped with an investment of more than 300 million rupees made in several phases by the Infrastructure Development Office, travel has become easier and vehicles now depart daily for Tulsipur via Khalanga.

Netra Budhathoki said that travel from Tharmare to Ragechaur, the district headquarters of Kumakh Rural Municipality, has become easier after more than 20 kilometers of road were blacktopped with a budget of Rs. 300 million from the Infrastructure Office. Top Bahadur Karki, Ward Chair of Kalimati-5, said that travel by vehicle has become easier after the Infrastructure Development Office completed blacktopping 5 kilometers of road from Putalibazar, the center of Kalimati Rural Municipality, to Baluwa with Rs. 400 million from the provincial and federal governments. Until last year, when vehicles did not operate during the rainy season, it used to take a full day to reach the municipal office from Baluwa. He said that now they can reach there and return within an hour.

The chief of the Infrastructure Development Office, Naveen Kumar Thapa, said that since the office was established in 2018, road upgrading and blacktopping work has been carried out. He said that so far, 68 kilometers of roads have been blacktopped in various areas. He said that this year, under the regular budget, funds have been allocated for an additional 10 kilometers of blacktopping.
